Carbon Minerals - The Great Oxidation Event

Before there was life on earth, earth's atmosphere had no oxygen in it. Oxygen molecules are key to a whole category of chemical reactions called redox or oxidation reduction reactions. The first life forms on earth were these little photo synthetic bacterias that lik used air and light and water to create energy. According to the hypothesis of mineral evolution, this huge explosion of mineral diversity is all thanks to earth's first life.
