Saudi Arabia's interest in diversifying its economy through sports is no secret. The country's state-controlled oil company, Aramco, made $161 billion in profit last year alone. Oil currently accounts for 42% of Saudi Arabia's total GDP. 87% of its budget revenues and 90% of export earnings are propped up by oil.
