The effect heuristic is an instance of substitution in which the answer to an easy question, how do I feel about it serves as an answer to a much harder question. The emotional tale wags the rational dog simplifies our lives by creating a world that is much tidier than reality. It's discouraging to see how worked up people can get about vast, complex phenomena when they actually don't have any idea what they're talking about. You know, I really think that the country would be better off if a large portion of its citizenry just stopped caring about politics because they only go by their feelings.
