The History of Summer Camp Rest
Summer camps are very much in 19th century phenomenon. They were part of a larger effort to get young kids out into the countryside. The boy scouts grow out of this larger movement in Germany. It was only for boys initially and then later it became more co-ed. But that kind of sounds like what the Hitler youth is supposed to be.
