In order for any society to govern effectively, it has to be able to build a sense of common purpose. And so the fact that this country wasn't able to deliver a speedy, effective response to am coven 19 strikes me as a so of all you need to look at in order to see what the problem is with polarization, right? That is, we weren't able to achieve a sort of shared picture across our branches of government. Very basic elements of response have been highly polarized, mask wearing being the main example at this point in time. Our elected officials did not see it as their job to break through that polarization and abridge that to help us achieve common purpose.
