Dynamic Analysis and Static Analysis of Malware

When we first got it, a very complex malware, the people who wrote it seemed to really know exactly what they were doing with this. Patrick and his team went to work. They had two options for trying to assess how much damage this new bit of sinister code had done and what it might do. Static analysis can tell operators something about how the adversary likes to break into systems they're targeting or it can reveal methods they use to hide in plain sight. Dynamic is actually taking that piece of malware and putting it into a safe contained environment in what we call detonating it or running it to see exactly what it does.
