The Importance of Smoking on Airline Flights

The ban on smoking aboard US domestic flights of less than two hours went into effect, April 23rd, 1988. It was meant to last for two years, expire April, 1990 and then face reconsideration. And at the time it levied penalties of $1,000 for passengers who smoked on short flights,. $2,000 for anyone who tampered with, disabled or destroyed lavatory smoke detectors.
