The divide between theory and practice is very central to formation of institutions, understanding of knowledge. The Brahmins consider Ashari world as our particular kind of laws and regulations which are applicable only in that community. Even when they enter into an outside world, say, in an upper caste world, the laws of the world changes. Ajaram was the central organizing category for their world. This has been ritual, so things are in simplistic terms, you can translate as a ritual but rituals have been studied in relation to specific Rituals.
