In 15 95, walter raleigh got the queen's permission to go on an expedition. He was searching for the fabled city of el dorado and robert devereux earl of essex went with him. They did not find a city of gold, though, but Raleigh did write a book called the discovery of guiana which came out in 15 96. This book was extremely popular, and it was printed four times that year. In 16 o one, the earl ofEssex rebelled against the queen, and raleigh helped put down that rebellion.
