Isabella is the author of a new book about China's economic policies. In it, she explains why china didn't pursue shock therapy like eastern europe did. Isabella: The idea is that you liberalize all prices and then impose marco economic restraint in order to prevent prices from spiraing out of control. And finally, privatization is meant transform state on enterprises and collective enterprises into private firms which would be reacting to this set of prie signals through price civilization.
