Playing Warhammer With Toy Soldiers

H.G. Wells wrote a set of wargaming rules called Little Wars, and basically he fought toy soldier battles on his carpet. A gentleman called Donald Featherston started to invent games using the then-metal little lead toy soldiers after World War II. And because they went into libraries in the 1960s and early 70s, a whole generation of people were inspired to play toy soldier games. That's kind of how it started. Warhammer is a sophisticated version of that, using science fiction and fantasy models mostly,. rather than firing matchsticks at them, we roll dice.
