The Use of Civet in Perfumery

In the sixteenth century, henry the eighth uses civet and lots of perfumes at his court. His household account books from the 15 forties show that he was using it with musk and herbs in his bath. Once we get to elizabeth the first she's using civet to perfume her gloves. A little will serve to powder the hair and give it a sweet smell. So in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, com cial perfumery is really taking off in a big way for the first time.
