What Elements of Your Black Identity Did You Undo in High School?
In high school is when I really learned how to code switch. So for instance, if you speak to a black person in a corporate setting or at their job, they're not going to talk to you the same way that they would talk to their family or to another black person. And so I started getting more into just different aspects of black culture. A lot of that was kind of undone as I tried to become more palatable and go back to acting like that good black Mormon in school.
