The Problem With Antibiotics in Hospitals
The combination of these two elements, a high risk antibiotic, and underlying disease in the patient is really a problematic cocktail. When you combine those elements, it's really an explosive cocktail because these people after getting an antibiotic will be far more vulnerable than a healthy young person to then be colonized by a range of bacterial pathogens that dwell in the intestine. The solution of coming after an antibiotic and repopulating the microbiota of the patient to prevent that infectious event really serves an unmet need that is not being served by antibiotics.
