The Why Factor
Intraversion and Shyness Are Not the Same Thing
Intraversion and shyness are not the same thing, although they do often overlap. In other words, you can be an extravert and still be shy. At the extreme end of the shiness spectrum is the debilitating psychiatric condition called social anxiety disorder. About 15 % of people are born with signs of shyness. But as we heard earlier, about half the population consider themselves to be shy. This might suggest that most people who think of themselves as shy, have acquired it rather than been born with it.
