What's Common Knowledge in Your Field?

In early stage venture, I think there's this notion of quote unquote being contrarian. And it's become a little bit of a trope as like the best way to make returns. Some of the very best investments by the very best investors in this field have not been obvious on day one. One of my favorite stories is about Larry Page and Sergey Brin who met John Doar at Kleiner Perkins back in 1999.
