Are Fears of Self Compassion Related to Eating Disorders?
Eating disorder sufferers have two different types of barriers to self compassion. The first one is, we call it meeting standards. And this the concern that if i were to practise self compassion, i would lose my competitive edge and stop working so hard. If i have more meeting standards barriers, i'm less likely to show readiness for behavior change. It's just too threatening to think of practising self compassion im the second barrier we call emotional vulnerability. This is about fear of feeling deeper feelings or going into some experiences tat would be quite painful. Those kinds of barriers are associated with long term recovery programmes.
