Xenophon and the Greeks - The Battle of Salmadessus
A dispute arose over pay. Suthis had paid the troops for only 20 days of the month that had passed, so roughly two thirds of what was owed to them. In order to conceal his fraudulent conduct, he began to cast accusations of Xenophon. Heraclides claimed that they could lead the army just as well without Xenophon. But this plan backfired, and Suthis and the other officers came to the defense of Xenophon instead.
