CHAPTER

The Impact of the Great Depression on the Manufacturing Economy

Taiwan produces over a third of the new computing power the world adds each year. If we were to lose access to Taiwan's chips through a war or a blockade, the impact on global manufacturing would be as dramatic as anything we've seen since the Great Depression. People are going on auction rooms to find secondhand MacBooks from 15 years ago and rewiring them. The whole of civilization could actually slow to some kind of crisis point.
