Miss Annie and Miss Annie, and the Things and the Bear
When sarah woke she was in the schoolhouse. Miss annie and pastor garvin, apparently, had found her down by the crick all banged up and dirty,. They brought her back to the school and cleaned her up. Pastor garvin went to fetch the doctor, who was a good two hours ride away but miss annie stayed. Sarah's head was in her lap, and miss annie hummed softly as she stroked her hair. She tried not to think about mamma and daddy or uncle eddy, or the things that were not daddy nor uncle eddy. And from outside there were screams, voices raised in alarm and distress; sound of breaking glass
