The idea is that Schrodinger was demonstrating basically that his equation tells you nonsense. His equation tells you that a cat could be dead on a live at the same time, or in this case, the cat could be going through both doors at once. That's what his equation tells him. And so usually, quantum mechanics people say, well, now you have to interpret it in some way,. Well, why doesn't the cat itself make a measurement by noticing which door is open or something like that? So you have a little bit of a problem. This is, I've been struggling with this for ever since I went to Cambridge as a graduate student.
