Socialism in One Country or Something International, Right?

The Orthodox view is that socialism needs to occur in a state that has already gone all the way through capitalism. If it doesn't occur in the advanced capitalist states, those capitalist states because they're stronger and more powerful are going to crush the revolution if it starts in a poorer state. Lenin thought maybe you can start it in Russia and quickly spread it to the core rich states like Germany or Britain or the United States. The alternative approach was to try to do it in one country and to build a domestic economic structure which could compete with and ultimately outcompete capitalism.
