In verse 13, gideon says to him, o my lord, if the lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? Do you remember rebecca when she's finely pregnant, a barren woman no longer barren, but her pregnancy is so hard that she asks god, if it be so, why am i thus? And that's what g Gideon's getting at.
