Information theory was developed by Claude Shannon in the 1940s. It's a huge industry of people that work on information theory and it's not exactly what I mean when I'm talking about information relevant to physics of life. So if you walk into the room carrying an umbrella my uncertainty is maybe reduced about whether it's raining or not outside because you had an umbrella and you were bringing it to work today. And so that's kind of what people usually think about when they think about information.
