In the 1970s, French film theory started to emerge in a very depoliticized way. People like Cristiel Metz in particular, and then just kind of starts shifting into psychoanalysis. And both of those modes of semiotic mode and psychoanalytic mode was more overtly political. It's not political about Algeria or something like that. It's political in a very contained kind of way.
