J. Robert Oppenheimer was the founding director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He is often seen as the father of the nuclear weapons program in the United States and the atomic bomb. The film takes great pains to be considerably accurate, both in a scientific and a technical and historical sense. It's clear that Nolan wanted to do a lot of justice to the historical material.
