The Alligator Brain and the Judge Brain

Gator brain is a primal system like an alligator lurking below the surface of your conscious awareness and it's constantly scanning the environment for opportunities and threats. Alligators can go up to three years without eating anything at all so their dominant response to all of the stimuli in the world is nothing if you're trying to influence an alligator the likelihood is that they will not even move the judge. Our social biases and our cognitive biases happen instantaneously with this unconscious part which is vastly more powerful than the judge part. It influences the judges processing so when the judge is deciding how to weigh  the Gator brain makes snap judgments almost immediately.
