The Importance of Differing Between Small and Large Bowel Resections

If you have more than 100 centimeters of bowel resected, your liver is no longer able to keep up with that capacity. You lose so much bial acid that you actually end up with a fat malabsorption. And if you try to give those patients a bial acid binder, their diarrhea is going to get exponentially worse. One other test for SIBO or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. This is the only time you would weigh the stool and you actually prove whether or not your patient is having diarrhea or not.
