The Consciousness of AI Systems

I think it's quite possible, especially if one's on the liberal side where all kinds of information processing gives you consciousness. I mean, probably a specialized system. A lot of human consciousness is specialized. We're just very conscious in all these different modalities and we have some general consciousness that floats on top of it. Our own intelligence does seem to be general but these systems could have some distinctive kind of their own. And yeah, I'd be inclined to at least regard as a serious open possibility that specialized AI systems even like AlphaGo and the like could have some degree of consciousness.
