Clementine's Story of Food and Drink
Clementine was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer at the age of 33. Surgeons removed part of her larynx and outfitted her with a tracheostomy tube. In order to speak, she pressed a button on the side of her throat to allow air to pass through her mouth. She concealed the tube with a black velvet ribbon wrapped around her neck. Her work completely revolutionized the way the American public thought about food and drink.
