There's a pretty strong consensus, not only that russia was involved in this interference, but that this kind of interference is not something that the united states should consider acceptable by any means. So i think what it really comes down to here is, what sort of precedent does the United States want to set for these sorts of behaviors? And if america doesn't respond, they risk establishing a precedent that such intrusions andn electoral interference are not or costles,. That russia can do this without any retaliation or any cost themselves.
