Hurricane Katrina and the Emergent Response
The 14th Combat Support Hospital out of Fort Benning provided the emergent response to Hurricane Katrina. The hospital was set up in the convention center and our job was twofold. One was really just to provide emergent care for the city of New Orleans. Like you mentioned the hospital charity hospital was flooded and essentially has not been reopened today. That building stands empty today. Typically their public hospital system was was devastated and so we filled that gap for emergent care. We saw overdoses and some traumas and some other things.
