Episode 3. The Minoans
Casting Through Ancient Greece

Herodotus's History of the Minowans
Herodotus's version of the decline of the Minowans was in relation to a military campaign on Sicily, after King Minos met the violent end there. With no way for them to return to Crete, they founded a city called Heraria. Herodotus's account then continues to tell us that Crete was depopulated after this disaster and re-inhabited by the Greeks. So from this we can perhaps see that a great military defeat had been brought against the Minowan army - severely weakening their army. They were eventually unable to defend Crete from external threats, which led to it being taken by invaders.
