The Greek mystery tradition at Elusis was accepted for every adult of Greek nationality who would not stained their hands with the blood of another. The ritual was performed every year for close to 2000 years until it was wiped out due to intense hatred and rivalry brought by another religion. And I've actually heard that it wasn't just adult men and women, but also sometimes children were initiated - which is going to be a little shocking when we tell you what this is all about.
