When targets are moving fast, typical contributors tend to stay on target. Whereas the impact players adjust, they're adapting, they're changing. They bring a levity, a humanity, that just eases the phantom work load so that people can focus on the real work load. That's kind of what i found. And you know, most people, they carry their weight, but when times get really tough, they sort of look upward and outward for for help to ease that burden. The impact players make work like they don't take all the work,. But they work in a way where hard work just is fun.

Liz Wiseman is a researcher and executive advisor who teaches leadership to executives around the world. She is the author of New York Times bestseller Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter,; The Multiplier Effect: Tapping the Genius Inside Our Schools, and Wall Street Journal bestseller Rookie Smarts: Why Learning Beats Knowing in the New Game of Work.
