Lyman is unceremoniously booted from the strip in 1983. There's no fanfare made about it. That's just like the last time he appears for a while. He did a newspaper in a 2013 strip I think that has a picture of Lyman in it. But mostly he's just gone and Odie is his John's dog. And there is a flash game called the scary scavenger hunt which appeared later on Garfield's website.
