Is the English Language a Medium of Choice?
The language itself is a tool of politics and diplomacy and war. If you're going to become independent on the global stage, resting that independence from a colonial power has historically required employing the English language. And so seeing Tsai Ing-wen put the female president of Taiwan put energy behind this speaks to the Taiwanese commitment to their self-determination.
