I was really struck by how many themes that are in the book I mean we're talking over 150 years now between then and now. There are these kind of really fundamental problems that people are trying to grapple with in 1848 and they're very much the same still now or have kind of maybe moved on but the actual patterns haven't changed all that much. The sense that society is losing its cohesion that it's drifting apart into completely different worlds of experience was very present in the 1840s  and I think it's you know very present nowbut it's interesting what you're saying about some things it feels like a continuity like a problem we've never yet solved, he says.
