Bitcoin is a decentralised, peer-to-peer digital currency. It was created by Vitalik Buterin in 2009 and has raised more than $1 billion so far. The system allows users to transfer money without the need for bank accounts or other forms of record keeping. However it does not eliminate all on chain fraud which could lead to problems with how people use bitcoin.
