The History of the Acoustic Mechanical Speech Machine
This is not to say that we have, this is not on the same level as some sort of imaginary brazen head. This is about just figuring out how these vowel sounds are produced and reproducing them through a basic mechanical system. There's Wolfgang von Kimpelen in Vienna, who created a similar acoustic mechanical speech machine 10 years after Kratzenstein. And then she also mentions English inventor Charles Wheatstone, who would improve on this in the early 19th century.
