The axion first came up as an idea in the late ten seventies, which was around the time that vera reuben and kent ford were first publishing their data about rotation curves. It's a particle that we have never seen, we haven't detected, We haven't worked with it, so we don't know if it's real. The axion arose as a solution to a completely different problem in particle physics. But there is a particle in here, and it can totally solve the dark matter problem at the same time.
