Freud's Definition of Narcissism
Primary narcissism is the state of just being aware that you have a self. Secondary narcissism, as Freud describes it, is this idea of not only are we trying to get what we need and want but if we have some measure of empathy. We try not to transgress other people while getting our needs and wants secondary narcissism sort of eliminates the transgression part there. And so my, my book is talking about secondary narcissism. It's talking about Freud's concept of when narcissism primary narcissism overtakes is overtaken by secondary narcissism and becomes pathological.
