We couldn't really figure out whether there were martians until we just got an up close view of mars. In 19 65, the yunmaned spacecraft, aner for, flew past mars, tix thousand miles above its surfc eat single camera to photograph it. There were no obvious signs of life on mars, but that didn't end the search. Mars is a planet that continues to show us just enough to keep us intrigued.
