How Can Teachers Create a Safe Space for Students to Talk About Issues?

Teachers need to make sure that there is a classroom environment that is safe for students to discuss these kind of topics. Students need to be able to feel like they are their authentic selves in the classroom, and that they can express their opinions on a particular topic openly and honestly. I'm always trying to model the skills of good dialogue in the classroom which are the same skills that you would use to have a good conversation outside of the classroom about a difficult topic. It's things like really listening to different opinions being genuinely open to and exploring new ideas that you may not shareBeing prepared to change your own mind,. Being able to challenge your own views and perspectives on a particular issue.
