In every group that we've examined, catholics, protestants, jews, hindus, moslems, buddhists, even atheists, we found people report spiritual struggles. One one study that struck me was a study of elderly people in palliative care who are dying of cancer. About 35% reported feeling angry at god or feeling that they were being punished by god by their cancer. So it just seems to be applicable to people from diverse backgrounds, and even surprisingly, among people who may be astyiss.
