For gerard, the cor psychological motor of humanity is metaphysical desire. What it really wants is for the self to be a certain type of self that's all lasting and powerful. This is precisely the type of self which buddhist conception of emptiness is supposed to alleviate us from. But even if an individual can fully liberate themselves from this faculty, i don't think the whole civilization is certainly not entire world to engage in this sort of practice. Gang, like jonathan said, if you thought we practised this, we did not.
