Joaquin Phoenix seems to have stepped into that empty space left when Philip Seymour Hoffman died. I would make a run for Gary Oldman in that campaign, but I'm with you. It's really one of my probably one of my favorite films of the year on that basis alone,. But it is also a deeply uncomfortable film. You're looking at a character who fundamentally cannot understand what it looks like to be normal and starts killing people instead.
