The Confessions Continue to Pray and Pray All the Way Through
Augustine's conversion is not something that happens in a moment and then we can sit back smugly and narrate it in the past tense. So he he prays through his story, because that's the only way for him to get through the story and have it still be part of a process of conversion. And so there is a kind of fittingness in the genre to show you both what has happened to him and what is happening to him. This doesn't feel like the conversion story talk is given like 42 times that all the parishes, you know what I mean? No, it doesn't.
