Is There Any Evidence That These Algae Are Symbiotic?

This species of alga has been observed cuddling up to some fungus, specifically another hallow tolerant organism called a hortacia verneca. The study encountered problems where were unable to get the algie to grow properly in vitro. So we still don't know if these organisms are involved in what could be called a border line liken relationship, or not.
