The Drake Equation
The Drake equation is a way of estimating the number of civilizations that are in the galaxy at the moment from whom we could receive a signal. It's Frank Drake's way of saying look if we want to talk about whether SETI is a worthwhile project, let's do some estimates and see like what the constraints are. And so then you have all of not all of the variables, but a series of variables that Frank Drake chose as most important for knowing that. The book includes science and a lot of sci-fi and so I had to figure out what books and movies and stories I wanted to use. There was there was a lot of shuffling there.
